In the
Eighth Grade I was a patrol boy at St. Rose of Lima School, and my post
was the corner of Seventh Avenue and Ninth Street, specifically the northeast
corner, one of the points of the little triangle of real estate that accommodated
the
Fr. John
Patrick Washington monument.
I looked at
it often but not until later in life appreciated the meaning behind it.
